The Nefesh Hayyim Yeshiva in Bnei Brak was established in order to provide a yeshiva style solution for young men (18-28) with a Yeshivish Torah background. Mentally challenged, who wish to continue their yeshiva studies, in a framework suitable for their lifestyles and families.
In Haredi society, where all young people are yeshiva students, in many cases for young Haredim self-definition as a "yeshiva boy" is an essential need that affects the student's perception of himself in the world. This definition also influences the perception of the young person's environment, from his immediate family, to friends and acquaintances. Therefore, the existence of a yeshiva institution that enables the creation of rehabilitation processes is a perfect solution for those who need it.
The daily schedule at the yeshiva includes study and morning and afternoon prayers, breakfast and lunch.
Daily itinerary starts at 8:30 AM and up to 03:00 PM.
During the day there is yeshiva study, at a high level, with great involvement of the students attending fascinating lessons. Yeshiva study is independent, with parteners, and the students serve as gabayim and cantors, and even experience delivering lessons.
In our yeshiva there is charedi atmosphere, and every young man can feel comfortable, including appropriate Haredi dress code and kosher phones.
I wish to recommend "Nefesh Hachayim" of Ma'alot. That Yeshiva provides an opportunity for young charedi students mentally challenged. The curriculum consists of classic Yeshiva studies together with professional assistance supervised by the ministry of health.
This rehabilitation service is intended for those who find trouble in returning to the regular institutes. At "Nefesh Hachayim" they acquire the abilities to socialize and study with their illness giving them the possibility to return in the future to their natural environment.
From our experience the process of rehabilitation is much more successful when done in a similar environment. Rabbi Tzvi Ruben's staff does a great Job.
I have every reason to highly recommend the yeshiva. A great place for our patients.
All the best

Our son came down with schizophrenia at the age of 18. It was very hard for him to come to terms with the illness. He had an outstanding personality as a Yeshiva Bachur as well as being bright and diligent. Loved by staff and friends. All of the sudden he's unwanted.
We tried to integrate him in institutes for youngsters with learning disabilities, but he felt out of place and wasted. Thus, two and half years later of displacement and sorrow went by. He turned in to a broken soul, caged at home dreaming of going back to normality and falling into harsh reality.
We dreamt of a suitable institute for him. With the Yeshiva atmosphere of intense and deep learning but complying with his illness and mental challenges.
WE FOUND THE PLACE! It's Nefesh Hachayim, in Bnei Brak! It's our dream come true.
Within a short time he changed dramatically. He met others in similar situations. Came to terms with his illness, signed the right applications and received care. All this unthinkable before the Nefesh Hachayim appeared in our lives.
Thank you!
